After swapping our beautiful Land Rover “Matilda” for two equally wicked motorbikes, Chris and I set off from Germany in September 2012, eastward bound. Chris is riding ‘Puck’ his 1996 Yamaha Tenere’ (a bike he used to do this same trip back in 1999), while I’m somewhat in control on ‘Pixie’, a 1996 BMW F650. Pixie has already tackled Africa with a dear friend, and she is looking forward to exploring Europe, Asia and Australia with me. Our intended route? Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzigovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, AUSTRALIA. Give a civil war or natural disaster here or there… How long is this journey going to take? Who knows! (And ain’t that the best part?) See you on the road everyone! Laura x

Well – I totally agree with your sentiments – go Pixie and Puck !
I recently took up mountain biking after living in the mountains for 7 years – and now I know what it means to live up here !!! Did 26 kms on my second ride !!!! I got to love it from the bottom of my bottom and next adventure is Kanangra for the same distance !! May not get as far as you but still getting my kicks !!!
Now THAT’s what I call an achievement! Riding 26kms on the power of your own legs is something you should be proud of! I am definitely taking the lazy way out…
Completely agreed too, kicks come from the journey, no matter how long or short it may be.
Keep ridin’ girlfriend! See you when we get home?
Love to you and your beautiful boys xxxxxxxxx
Hi Laura,
I just read your blog: fantastic!!
I know you’r on holidays so apologize for the following: I am strongly interested in your China overland tour and have already read all your postings but could you please get in contact with me (e-mail?!) for further advice?
Thanks so much and keep on like you did 😉
Hello Patrick,
I love your enthusiasm! ahah
I’ll email you now 🙂
If the trip is going to Norway, let me know 🙂
Thanks Jarle! For now, though , we are moving away from your freeeeezing winter 😀
It’s always good not to plan! Who knows what’ll happen anyway?
I’m looking forward to reading your blog (when I’m home again next week)!
lots of greetings Gabi in Lyon right now
Hi Laura
Have just seen your amazing blog. Please could you email us with further details ie an appox cost. and pitfalls. In Aug/Sept 2015 we are overlanding to Oz in our Toyota Hilux and have been trying to sort out the best route. Iran, now has to have guide, and the problems in Parkistan makes us question this route. China, with a guide, seemed far too expensive so hopefully China without a guide would be ideal.
Good travelling and thanks for the great read
Hi Janet and Chris, thanks so much for your message.
I have no info on prices for individual travellers wanting to travel through China…my blogs are only outlining our own personal experiences. BUT…do keep an eye out on this below-mentioned forum, as new info is constantly updated. Othere than what I’ve written in the 3 blog posts about China, there’s no more info to share from my end :)))
Good luck with your plan, sounds like it will be an interesting challenge! cheers :))
